Please read the instructions very carefully. Abstract submissions will only be accepted in the format set out below.
All abstracts must be submitted online using the form. Submissions sent by email or via any other means will not be accepted:
- Maximum of 3 authors – MUST include the consultant in charge of the case
- Permanent email address of ALL three authors
- In addition, mobile telephone number of the presenting author
- First author must be available to present on the day if the abstract is accepted
- The abstract should not exceed 250 words excluding contact details
Closing date for applications will be on midnight of the day specified
Applicants will receive email notification of the outcome of the submission automatically following peer review.
Where your submission is accepted, this must be confirmed and finalised by the presenting author.
- Reply to the email notification of conditional acceptance within 7 days
- Submit any relevant histopathology and radiology materials to be reviewed in the meeting as separate Powerpoint presentations at the latest two weeks prior to the meeting.
- Submit the actual Powerpoint presentation of the talk at the latest one week prior to the meeting. Changes on the day of the meeting will NOT be allowed under any circumstances.
This document only applies to accepted submissions that have already been presented at the SemonClub Meeting.
The following guidelines must be adhered to for preparation of abstracts to be published following presentation at the above Semon Club meeting.
The abstract should not exceed 250 words and should not include any abbreviations without first writing them out in full as the JLO are very strict about that rule.
Up to 2 images can be included (eg representative pathology and/or radiology).
All images must be annotated.
- Radiology images must include the location and type of scan.
- Histology images must include include the magnification and stain used
The abstract should consist of:
- Title – Short title giving the presenting symptoms rather than the diagnosis (eg “Progressive bilateral hearing loss and tinnitus following a head injury”)
- Authors (maximum 3) and name of hospital and trust
- Introduction
- Case report
- Radiological findings
- Histological findings
- Management
- Discussion and lessons learned specifically from the meeting. Include comments made by other colleagues during the presentation mentioning their name if appropriate (e.g. “Professor Michaels held the opinion that the patient was most likely suffering from allergic fungal disease and that mucormycosis was simply a concomitant finding”)
- Conclusion with a “take-home message”, if possible
Final abstracts should be reviewed by the Consultant in charge of the case prior to submission as a Microsoft WORD document. Please use Times New Roman font is size 12. Do NOT use bold, italics or underlining. Do not include any references.
